    “Material world” is exhibition and workshop by Björn Steinar Blumenstein at LungA festival 2018 that aimed investigate objexct histories and disturb the tranquility of constant consumption. With a focus on the material world, a change of perspective was encouraged by approaching broken objects as raw materials and components—aluminum, steel, plastic, glass, cameras, or speakers—rather than as objects that had lost their use value.

    The workshop was set up as a hands-on workspace where materials were transformed into objects with new purposes. At the same time, participants worked with photography, video, and illustration to document and communicate the process. The ideology of the project was informed by the ready-made movement of the 1980s, Mary Douglas's writing on matter out of place, and a solution-oriented dialogue addressing the environmental challenges facing the world.
